Abstract:
A bonded sphero-cylindrical fiber model was established using the Discrete Element Method(DEM)for both elastic and elasto-plastic fiber bundles, which were applied to simulate the torsional process of single strand,seven-strand and nineteen-strand fiber bundles.Additionally, experiments of torsion tests were conducted on single strand and seven-strand fiber bundles, and the results were compared with the DEM simulations to validate the accuracy of the models. The findings indicate that fiber bundles composed of high torsional stiffness fibers can withstand larger external loads.Furthermore, for fiber bundles with the same equivalent cross-sectional area, the nineteen-strand fiber bundle can withstand larger torques compared to the seven-strand fiber bundle when subjected to the same torsional angle.
