Abstract:
PE pipes are widely used in transportation of matters such as urban gas, water and supply.A pipe is prone to failure in an earthquake disaster.A numerical model for PE pipe-soil coupling was established in this paper.Mechanical characteristics of the buried PE pipe under the action of seismic waves were studied.Effects of internal pressure, seismic intensity, surrounding soil types and covering soil height on its mechanical responses were discussed. The results show that stress offset effect appears on the pipe section, the maximum stress is not at 0 °, 90 °, 180 ° or 270 °.The initial stress of the pipe wall is increased under internal pressure. The pipe hoop stress increases with the seismic intensity. The "offset effect" is more obvious with the increase of seismic intensity. These results can provide a theoretical bases for the laying and safety evaluation of PE pipes.
