Abstract:
This paper introduces a new method of generating the ground structure in the non-convex domain based on geometry and mesh in order to improve the efficiency and accuracy of ground structure generation in truss topology optimization.Bars of the initial ground structure generated by connectivity level which is outside of the design domain should be deleted using collision detection. The geometrical boundary can be used as a criterion for collision detection instead of extending or constructing a restricted area of the original design domain, which simplifies the process and avoids the inaccurate identification of the candidate bars. The main idea to improve the efficiency of the ground structure generation is to reduce the number of bars which need collision detection on the concave boundary. Finally, some related examples in 2D and 3D truss topology optimizations based on plastic design are analysed using the generated ground structure.
