Entropy generation rates calculation in turbulent flow through an airfoil based on eddy viscosity models

Abstract:
      The SIMPLE algorithm was achieved based on non-orthogonal collocated grid by using FVM.Based on entropy analysis method, the influence of turbulence model using eddy viscosity model on the entropy generation rate of the flow field around a two-dimensional airfoil was studied.The accuracy of the algorithm and programs was assessed by simulating the pressure coefficient distribution, lift coefficient and drag coefficient of NACA0012 airfoil under Reynolds number of 2.88×106 and attack angle from 0° to 16.5°.It is found that the entropy generation rate in the airfoil flow field varies with different turbulence models, which is mainly caused by turbulent dissipation.The entropy generation of airfoil flow field mainly occurs in the frontal zone, the wall boundary layer zone and the wake region.The drag coefficient of the airfoil and entropy generation rates in the flow field can be related by linear equation.The entropy generation rates caused by viscous dissipation decrease when the separation vortex appears.
