Abstract:
The flow structure and temperature distributions in the cavity between the impeller and casing of a centrifugal compressor are studied numerically in this work. The impeller can be modeled as a fast rotating disk. The experiment and numerical simulations of the rotating disk are compared. The influence of rotating speed and cooling air mass flow rate on the velocity and temperature distributions has been investigated. It reveals that the temperature is mainly affected by the rotating speed and increases as the disk rotation speeds up.By comparison, the effect of the increasing of cooling air to the result of temperature is smaller as the disk speed.Meanwhile, the distribution of non-dimensional velocity components is the same under different rotating speed and cooling air mass flow rate.
