Abstract:
By considering transverse normal thermal deformation, this paper proposed a C0-type Reddy theory, which is used to analyze thermal expansion problems of laminated composite and sandwich plates.Although transverse normal thermal strain was taken into account, displacement variables are not increased. The first derivatives of transverse displacement have been removed from displacement field of the proposed model, so that the C0 interpolation functions are only required for the finite element implementation.Based on the proposed model, the equilibrium equations are obtained by using the principle of virtual displacements. Moreover, a six-node triangular element is constructed to analyze thermal expansion problems of simply-supported laminated composite and sandwich plates.Numerical results show that the proposed model can produce accurate response of laminated composite and sandwich plates under temperature loads, whereas the models neglecting transverse normal strain are less accurate.
