Abstract:
The Vector Form Intrinsic Finite Element (VFIFE) is a new method for the analysis of structural behavior based on the vector mechanics theory and point value description.Following a brief introduction on the basic theory for the VFIFE triangular membrane element, this paper presents the approaches dealing with collision detection and collision response, which are applicable to collision-contact problems of both membrane material-to-rigid body and membrane material-to-membrane material.A one-way collision detection method between the membrane particle and triangular mesh surface is proposed for the collision detection problem.Combining with the penalty function method and the formula of central differential displacement,a penalty contact force response method based on the central differential formula is presented for the analysis of collision response, and the rule for the determination of penalty parameter is also provided.A computer program with collision-contact analysis module of membrane element is then developed, and the reliability and computational stability of the derived theory and the developed program are verified through numerical examples. It is shown that the VFIFE is advantageous in the co-llision-contact analysis of membrane materials.
