Abstract:
Researchers pay more and more attentions on the study of soil-rock mixture (S-RM) because of the complexity of its engineering geo-mechanical characteristics. The structural property is one of the important factors on the failure mechanism and the macro mechanical characteristics of S-RM.Using an open-source software developed for numerical simulations using discrete modeling methods—YADE,a series of direction shear tests are performed to study the effections of the rock block content and the sample scale on the mechanical characteristics of S-RM.From these studies some significant conclusions are drawn:under the same rock block content and grain-size composition, the macro shear strength and the dilatancy behavior of S-RM will decrease with sample scale's increasing; and under the same scale, the macro shear strength and the dilatancy behavior of S-RM will increase with increasing rock block content; the rock blocks have great effects on the meso-stress field, and effect on the macro mechanical characteristics of the sample.
