Abstract:
The propagation mechanism of thermo-plastic shear wave induced adiabatic shear banding in high speed machining was presented theoretically.Considering plastic gradient deformation characteristics, momentum and energy dissipations in thermo-plastic region of serrated chip with adiabatic shear band, the propagation model of thermo-plastic shear wave and the corresponding shear bandwidth model were established. On this basis, through high speed cutting experiment of hardened 45 steel and its modified Johnson-Cook constitutive model, the propagation laws of thermo-plastic shear wave were investigated and the shear bandwidth model was compared with other purposed shear bandwidth models, such as DB model,WR model and DM model. The results indicate that the shear bandwidth model deduced from the propagation theory of thermo-plastic shear wave is more accordant with the experimental results than the other shear bandwidth models.
