Abstract:
The response of a narrow-long harbor to an incident solitary wave is simulated by a Boussineq wave model. Both horizontal and sloping bottoms are studied. The comparison between the numerical results and theory as well as the spectral analysis is conducted, which indicates that most of the energy of the harbor response is at the first three natural frequencies when a solitary wave enters into a narrow harbor with a side of open waters. It shows a good agreement between the numerical and theoretical results, suggesting a possible method to estimate the natural frequencies of a narrow-long harbor.
