Abstract:
By using the dual boundary element method (DBEM),the interaction between two coplanar cracks in a transversely isotropic half space was analyzed under a normal or tangential uniform traction.According to the SIFs calculated by the present method, the influence of free surface on the SIFs was examined firstly. It can be concluded that the free surface exerts an obvious influence on the SIFs of this type of crack subjected to a normal uniform traction. In order to quantitatively describe the influence of the interaction between cracks on the SIFs,the interaction factor was introduced. The variations of the interaction factor were investigated with the crack spacing, the side ratio and the distance from free surface. Results show that the crack spacing and side ratio have a significant effect on the interaction factor and the free surface has a little influence on the interaction factor.
