Abstract:
Fully coupled thermo-mechanical models with different sizes are developed to study the effect of the mesh sensitivity on the computational results. The temperature distribution and the residual stress distribution are also studied. The result indicates that computational error, efficiency and cost are all depending on the mesh density.Accuracy is enhanced with the increase of mesh density. However, accuracy is not proportional to the increase of the mesh density.Temperature distribution is almost steady in the welding process.Additionally, the longitudinal distribution of residual stress in the welding plate reveals the double peak feature, which can correlate well with the previous experiments.
