Abstract:
Self-boring pressuremeter test (SBPT) has been effectively utilized to determine in-situ properties of soils and is one of the most potential in-situ tests in international geomechanical field because it can overcome disturbance for soil to a large extent during boring and obtain the data of stress, strain and pore pressure simultaneously. The process of soil-squeezing is similar to cylindrical cavity expansion so that most of interpretation for SBPT is based on the theory of cavity expansion. This paper illuminates the difficulties of theoretical analysis of SBPT, reviews and evaluates the current use of fundamental mechanics in developing rational interpretation methods for deriving soil properties and soil constitutive model parameters from in situ test results, possible sources of inaccuracy and corrections based on Yu’s review. It is expected to provide reference and guidance for wide application of SBPT in China. Also, some research trends in the field are discussed.
