Abstract:
      Polygonal wear of tire is a new subject of the tire wear study which has great theoretical value and research meaning. Considering the nonlinear characteristic of tire’s grounding friction and the wear caused by the interaction between tread and pavement, a dynamic model of tread’s lateral self-excited vibration is established based on LuGre friction model, and the production condition of polygonal wear and the calculation formula of wear number are analyzed which are verified by numerical simulations. The results show that: the polygonal wear is related to tread’s lateral self-excited vibration which occurs only at specific speeds; wear number is nearly equivalent to the ratio of the lateral vibration frequency of tire tread to the rotational frequency of tire.
