Abstract:
Longitudinal flexibility is one of important mechanical properties of a coronary stent. This paper simulated the bending deformation of a stent until a large bending curvature was achieved. The results demonstrated that the elastic phase of bending was very short. During the simulations, the contact algorithm was appealed to produce more accurate and truthful results. Since MACTM stent possess an asymmetrical structure, it provides a probability of the aeolotropic bending behavior. The bending stiffness was studied with different loading orientation, and the final results verified the aeolotropism. The bending stiffness increased sharply and varied greatly after the occurrence of the structural self-contact. Besides the bending deformation, sideways deflection and torsion about the axis were both found by this numerical research.
