Abstract:
      A triangular mesh simplification method for finite element analysis is presented based on surface simplification algorithm using quadric error metrics. The quality evaluation of triangle element will take into the cost of a pair constriction in order to avoid long and narrow triangles left in the result. The feature detection process is improved, and user’s control is available. As a result, the features can be located and preserved accurately during mesh simplification process. The algorithm can be applied to finite element models to meet the requirement on efficiency and accuracy in scientific computing.
