Abstract:
This paper suggests modeling couple-stress problem via element-free Galerkin method (EFGM), so as to avoid the inconvenience that may be caused by C1 continuity requirement in the implementation of FEM. A quadratic basis and moving least squares (MLS) technique based EFG formula is derived. Numerical verification is provided via an infinite plane with a small hole and a long strip subjected to uniform extensions. In comparison with analytical solutions, the results are satisfactory. In addition, the impacts of node density and weight function on the solutions are discussed. The computational results indicate the proposed model is available for solving couple stress problems.
