Abstract:
      A new adaptive strategy based on the nodal stress error is developed in this paper taking into account the requirements for high accuracy nodal stress results in practice.A method used to evaluate the nodal stress error using the 2-norm as the error measure is firstly proposed and then the adaptive strategy based on the nodal stress error is presented on the assumption that the error is equally distributed between all the nodes.Finally,considering the stress accuracy requirements in higher stress zones for practical engineering,a new refinement strategy based on distributing the error according to the magnitude of the nodal stress is further developed.Due to the consideration of not only the nodal stress error but also the nodal stress magnitude,the newly developed strategy is more reasonable for practical use.The numerical results indicate the method presented in this paper is feasible and efficient.
