Abstract:
A new nonlinear analysis method is developed for torsion of reinforced concrete members based on fixed-angle softened truss model, which assumes the cracks to be oriented in the principal compression direction of the externally applied stresses.Sixteen equations involving twenty variables were derived from equilibrium, compatibility, and constitutive laws of materials. And an efficient algorithm was proposed to solve these simultaneous equations according to the characteristic of torsion problem. This method can predict not only the torsional strength but also the post-cracking behavior of RC members subjected to pure torsion.Through analyzing 63 specimens available in the literature the results predicted by this method are in good agreement with those obtained from tests.
