Abstract: |
An efficient numerical method with first and second order accuracy was developed by the flux split technology to simulate the water hammer problem in piping. The finite volume formulation ensured that both schemes conserve mass and momentum and produced physically realizable shock fronts. The proposed scheme has several desirable properties, such as,accurate, efficient, robust, high shock resolution, conservative and stable for Courant number. The Riemann problem and the water hammer problem and the pipe network with valves were implemented as example ones to test the numerical method for various Courant numbers.Strong numerical evidences show that the present numerical method incorporated with flux limiters is a promising one to simulate fluid transient problem for piping in the present study. |
