Abstract:
      The search approach of the basic complex method is modified to avoid the false optimum solution that might occur.The modified search approach is as follows: each design point is viewed as "bad" design point and is reflected to yield the better design point than the "bad" design point,a new complex is generated by replacing the "bad" design point with the better design point.There are altogether several or one new complex,the one whose diversity is strong is chosen to be the original complex for the next iteration.The method continues until the stopping criterion is met,thereby defining the new complex method.The new complex method is applied to the search for the minimum factor of safety of two soil slopes,the result has shown that the new complex method has the ability to find the true minimum to a large extent.
