Abstract:
In this paper, Tuned Liquid Column Dampers (TLCD) and Circular Tuned Liquid Column Dampers (CTLCD) are used to control the torsion coupled vibration of structures subjected to multi-dimensional earthquake excitation. The optimal parameters of the liquid dampers are designed for the structures subjected to bi-directional seismic excitations based on the Genetic Algorithms (GAs). Two kinds of target functions are used in this paper. The first one concerns the maximum structural floor response and the second deals with the responses of all structural degrees. A 12-storey eccentric structure mode is selected as an example. The results show that the optimal parameters with the second target function can effectively control the translational responses in x and y directions as well as torsional response.
