Abstract:
      This paper gives a brief introduction to some applications of complementarity problems in nonlinear mechanics. The emphasis is laid on the complementarity models of static contact problems, elastoplasticity problems and structural optimization problems. The advantage of formulating the mechanical problems as complementarity models is twofold: Firstly, it offers a more natural and more refined mathematical formalism. Secondly, the resulting complementarity problems can be solved by some efficient and robust numerical algorithms.
