| Assessing the structural damage by vibration test is an active field in the st ructural engineering. The damage diagnosis is complex because the vibrational mo des of beams on an elastic foundation are influenced by two factors: the propert ies of foundation and those of beams. Based on the sensitive analysis of beams on elastic foundation with two ends being free, it is clear that the first two f ree vibrational modes are mainly related to features of foundation. According to this characteristic a two-step method is developed and the genetic algorithms, a powerful optimal tool, is applied to the diagnosis, then a satisfactory resul t is achieved. |
