Abstract:
      A geometrically non linear analysis of plates and she lls is realized using a recently developped quadrilateral,16 degrees of freedom flat shell element (called DKQ16). The effects of large rotation and moderate r otation of shell are discussed. Based on the hypothesis of small strain and mode rate rotation, a geomrtrical stiffness matrix and a large displacemet matrix are constructed for DKQ16 element using Total Lagrange formulation. Newton Raphson method is used to solve the non linear equations piloted in displacements or i n arc length. The influence of meshes and the number of load step on the converg ence is investigated. Comparision of the numerical results for typical problems with other elements shows that the DKQ16 element has a very good precision for t he geometrically non linear problem of plates and shells.
