Abstract:
Based on the three\|dimensional finite element method, this paper studies the calculation of added mass for the ship entering and leaving a ship\|box. The added mass for a cylinder in the infinite domain, the semi\|infinite domain and for the inner of two concentric cylinders were calculated respectively. It is shown that the calculated results agree with the theoritical results very well. Then, the added mass for a rectangular ship entering and leaving a ship\|box, was also calculated, which show that the added mass coefficient will increase with decreasing the distance between ship and sides of ship\|box, the depth of the water in the ship\|box, and the distance between the ship and the side in front of the ship\|box.
