Abstract:
The boundary element method with singularity distribution outside the domain in the free\|surface potential flow problem is discussed in this article. Using the continuous and discrete Fourier analysis, the numerical error analysis of this method, with the source strength of m\|order distributed on each panel, is carried out and a general expression, including the effects of the vertical distance of singularities to the free surface, the order of singularity distribution in the panels, and the collocation\|point shifting and difference scheme for the errors of numerical damping and dispersion is derived. It is proved theoretically that the boundary element method with singularity distribution outside the domain in free\|surface potential flow can improve the numerical dispersion error produced by discretization, and combined with the collocation\|point shifting up\|stream, contributes to satisfying the radiation condition numerically.
