Abstract:
The transient dynamics of an externally excited oscillator attached with a pendulum as the suppressor is studied. With badly chosen parameters, the vibration of oscillator abruptly increases after a while of small amplitude motion, at the same time, the pendulum begins to rotate about the attached point. To explain this special phenomenon, the concept of transient equilibrium is introduced. It is shown that the transient motion of systems always oscillates near its transient equilibrium, that the reason of the phenomenon is the change of the transient equilibrium.
