Abstract:
      A new effective approach has been proposed to formulate thin plate element by using the similarity theory between plane elasticity and plate bending. On the basis of the similarity theory, a new four\|node, twenty\|four degree of freedom flat thin shell element(called MPSQ24) is presented. This element is constructed by superposition of a four node plane rational element RQ4 (membrane part) and a four\|node plate element MPS12 based on the similarity theory (bending part). Numerical results for typical problems show that the new element has a very good convergence and a high precision.
