It is important to estimate the plastic zone in the analysis of crack propagation and material strength. A new method using the adaptive finite element analysis to determine the shape of plastic zone near the crack tip is proposed in this paper. The results showed that this method could be used to trace the interface line between elastic zone and plastic zone by adaptive mesh refinement combined with elastoplastic constitutive model during non\|linear adaptive finite element analysis.
