Abstract: |
seal property of an axisymmetric radial labyrinth seal is numerically studied. Simulation of inner flow field of the labyrinth shows the variation of effective flow area in throttle clearance with tooth insert length, and the seal properties at different tooth insert length are obtained. It is found that the seal property does not always increase with the tooth insert length, but an optimum tooth insert length exists. Under condition of optimum tooth insert length, although the throttle clearance is wider, the effective flow area decrease because of flow deflection and contraction in the clearance, thus discharging media can reach a higher speed in the clearance, and the sealing property increase. It is improtant for labyrinth seal to achieve better seal effect with wider clearance. |
