Abstract:
An optimal integrated design is referred to as the trade off between a structural initial design and its maintenance policy over a design lifetime. Unfortunately. few overall models for integrated design optimization exist currently. This paper aims at establishing an integrated design optimization model for any calculated structures. With the model, the optimal design parameters and corresponding maintenance strategies for a structure can be determined leading to the minimum total discounted lifetime cost. This model differs from others in that it uses deterministic mathematics, other than stochastic process and reliability theory, as a basis. Compared to other models, the advantages of this one lie in its theoretical simplicity, computational tractability, and strong practicability.
