The concept of optimal construction type is proposed. The existence of an optimal construction type is proved. A heuristic method is developed. The calculated results of an example show that the selectotype optimization well merges together the merits of the theory and method for the shape, the topology, and the lagout optimization, and it is also simple and reliable.
