Abstract:
The paper describes a finite element simulation technique of the crack growth process in the homogeneous or inhomogeneous solids.Based on the general principles of the adaptive finite element methods,a simplified remeshing strategy of the finite element mesh was presented for consideration of the material fracture characters. The crack is assumed to be along the interface between elements and the new crack surface is created by node release mthod. The detailed procedures were demonstrated by the interfacial fracture mechanics problem in bimaterials.Tt is shown that this technique can be applied to predict crack path and fracture process of multiphase solids.
