Abstract:
      By utilizing Timoshenko beam theory, a set of first-order differential equations of a rotor-supporting system is derived. Galerkin method is used to establish the formulas of a high accuraterotor element,in which the effects of shear deformation,rotary inertia ,axial load,gyroscopic mo-ments,internal and external damping are included.Two examples are presented and the resultsare compared with those of experiments and those reported by other investigators utilizingdifferent method.The examples show that the accuracy of the present element is satisfactory.
