A 3D-2D mixed sub-region FEM is proposed for composite structures in this paper. A 3D-2D transition element and a 3D brick element with 17 points are developed. The examples show that the approach can greatly reduce the calculating scale and time with satisfactory accuracy. The method is reliable and also suitable for other structures.
