In the present paper, the foundation and background of the development in the computational solid mechanics (CSM) are discussed, and taking the aerospace field as an example, the profit received by the engineering circle from the application of CSM is illustrated. In addition, some subjects to be thoroughly investigated and studied necessary for the further development of CSM are discussed as well. Finally, the vast vistas of the development in CSM is briefly looked ahead.
