This paper deals with the strong coupling characteristic of a special kind of elements--the cableelements used in static and dynamic finite element analyses on the structures of hoisting machinery. The stratagem for assembling the stiffness matrix of cable elements to the global stiffness matrix is discussed so that these elements can be easily introduced to existing finite element analysis programes.
