| Abstract: |
| A spline finite strip method is developed to study the distortional buckling of thin-walled beams with slender plate elements in the elastic range. The method is very efficient and versatile since it can deal with the beams with various prescribed boundary conditions, internal supports, concentrated and patch loading,etc. The spline finite strip method is shown in good agreement with the established results. A lot of numerical results obtained show that the distortional mode of buckling may control the design of the thin-walled beams for certain geometries. |
